The Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) has published a competitive tender to allocate free feed-in capacity on the medium- and high-voltage grid to wind farms and wind parks. The call went out on 30 August 2026, and it puts a total of 702 megavolt-amperes (MVA) of allocatable capacity out to competition across nine grid connection nodes in six districts.

Applications open on 4 September 2026 through the Magyarorszag.hu personalised administration platform, and the deadline is 30 October 2026 at 23:59, electronic submission only. MEKH will then carry out its technical evaluation and publish the results on its website by 13 December 2026 at the latest. The participation fee is 3,000,000 forints, set under MEKH decree 2/2026.

The tender also fixes the timing of grid connection. The earliest connection date is 30 September 2030. The actual date for each node is set in the connection plan and the grid connection agreement, with the condition that no connection date later than 30 September 2032 may be specified. For a developer that means a defined build window rather than an open-ended queue, with both a floor and a ceiling on when the plant has to connect.

For operators the significance is that grid access, not turbines or offtake, is the binding constraint on new Hungarian wind. This tender is the mechanism that puts scarce capacity out to competition, and winning a node secures a medium- or high-voltage connection right. The investment itself is financed by the applicant, so the economics turn on what each node is worth against the cost of building to it. With a connection horizon running to 2030 and 2032, revenue modelling has to look several years out, across merchant exposure, capture prices and any PPA that can be signed against a plant that is not yet built.
